Also Correct rebounds to win Winston Griffiths Trophy

UPPA TUNE, running at odds of 8-1 with champion jockey Dane Nelson aboard (replacing Winston Griffiths), makes it a post-to-post affair in the 10th race over 1500 metres for the Chairman’s Trophy (grade one feature) at Caymanas Park on Saturday. The winner is trained by Harry Parsard.

ALSO CORRECT, running at odds of 6-1 in sloppy conditions caused by mid-afternoon showers at Caymanas Park yesterday, won the annual renewal of the Winston Griffiths Trophy over 1400 metres in a driving finish.

The race was confined to non-winners of an overnight allowance race. It provided keen competition among the 11 starters, with ALSO CORRECT, ridden by Shamaree Muir for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, taking over the lead from highly fancied BUTLER CABIN (3-1) on the inside leaving the furlong pole and held on by half a length from the fast-finishing WESTERN ROSE (8-1), who was slowly away and outpaced and could be deemed an unlucky loser.

BUTLER CABIN, who assumed the lead from DESTINY'S CHOICE (5-1) and LOCKED AND LOADED (6-1) entering the straight, was relegated to third, another length away.

A four-year-old bay filly by Region Of Merit out of Royal Pizzaz, ALSO CORRECT was notching her third win from her last six starts. She is co-owned by the trainer's wife Elizabeth and Raymond 'Mitta' Rousseau.

Later on the Jockeys' Guild nine-race programme, HOLIDAY WEEKEND (7-1) also won the Jockeys' Guild of Jamaica Trophy over 1400 metres in a driving finish from 9-2 chance UNCLE CHUBBY, rallying strongly on the wide outside in a 13-horse field (four-year-olds and up no winners of two).

There was a stewards' inquiry and jockey objection by O'Brien White aboard the early leader TO THE WORLD for interference leaving the half mile, but this was overruled. Ridden by Kerry-Gayle Robinson, HOLIDAY WEEKEND is owned by Rising Star and trained by Johnny Wilmot.

Champion jockey Dane Nelson rode two winners in firm favourites BLACK THORN and the three-year-old debutant SOUTHERN CRUISE, who won the three-year-old maiden race by 121/2 lengths to top the jockeys' category in the Performer of the Month promotion, while fellow jockey Aaron Chatrie also had a double, comprising runaway winner BRAWN and ABOVE THE RADAR.
