Defending champions Montego Bay United have sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Red Stripe Premier League, following a 3-1 victory over lowly Barbican at the Barbican Sports Complex yesterday.

Owayne Gordon (14th), Dino Williams (32nd) and Allen Ottey (76th) were the scorers for Montego Bay United. Substitute Donovan Segree netted the consolation goal for Barbican in the 80th minute.

Barbican ended the match with ten players, this after Akino Bailey was shown a straight red card for a vicious tackle on Kashief Brown.

The victory moved Montego United (52 points) to third place with three rounds of matches remaining in the competition.

They are six points ahead of fourth-place Humble Lion and eight above fifth-place Tivoli Gardens.  Barbican are rooted at the bottom of the standings on 24 points.

Coach Carlos Garcia was very happy with Montego Bay United's performance.
“I think in the first ten or 15 minutes we could have gone three goals up but we didn’t make use of our chances,” said Garcia.  "However, all in all I think it was quite good from us and we deserved this victory.”

He added: “The plan was to make the semi-finals and we have that with this victory and so we just have to look forward to our three remaining matches.”

In the day’s other game, Tivoli Gardens edged Cavalier 1-0 at the Stadium East Field. National Under-20 player Junior Flemmings scored the lone goal for Tivoli in the 63rd minute. The victory moved Tivoli to fifth in the standings on 44 points.
