Racing at Dover

After the qualifying sessions held yesterday, under wet conditions at the Dover Raceway, St. Ann, an exciting show down is anticipated this afternoon, between the Kingston-based drivers and their counter-parts of Western Jamaica, as the 'Carnival of Speed' Easter Race Meet, concludes today.

The Total Lubricant team, led by David Summerbell, Kyle Gregg and Andre Anderson, which is apart of the Kingston contingent, all qualified on pole for today's fierce battle on the track. Summerbell who posted 1:18 seconds in the Thundersport II qualifying session, looks quite comfortable at thus stage. His team-mates Gregg dominated Modified Production (MP) II and Anderson likewise in MP III.

"I could have gone much faster, because the car feels good. My concerns now is just the conditions of the track," responded Summerbell, when asked if he intends to establish a new lap record this time around.

Another Kingston based driver, Peter 'Zoom Zoom' Rae, and his DHL/Epping RX7 Mazda, was spotted in the dark, at the Dyno, the wee hours of yesterday morning, fine tuning his preparation.

"We were at the dyno about 3:00 a.m. this morning (Sunday). The car is ready and my fans can expect a good show," said Rae.

Immediately after the qualifying session ended, the Montego Bay pair of Dean Corrodus and Guy Fraser gave a sneak preview of what can be expected today.

"Dean is really shinning today. He won the first Bracket 29 event, while Fraser won the first Improve Production race," commented Monique Gibbs, Communication Officer for the Jamaica Race Drivers' Club (JRDC), who spoke with The Gleaner from the race track yesterday.

Corrodus (Dean) had warned earlier that the Montego based team will be a force to reckon with, especially with the inclusion of the young generation: Ameer Johnson, Chris-John Addison and Nicholas Barnes. The latter two are students of Cornwall College. The Montego Bay will also include Matthew Gore, Jordon Powell and Owen Campbell.
