Barrett looking for top performance at 'Penns'

Warren Barrett Jr is looking to make a good impression for Jamaica and the throws when he competes at the upcoming Penn Relays in Philadelphia from April 23-25. Barrett the son of former national goalkeeper Warren Barrett represented Cornwall College for most of his high school career but opted to move to Calabar for sixth form.

The talented young thrower now looks forward to representing Calabar for the first time at Penns after copping a pair of silver for his new school at Champs 2015.

"I am going into the Penn Relays and Calabar and looking forward to it because the throws in Jamaica are not recognised but I want to go and give a good showing and push our Jamaican people who are going over to compete as well," said Barrett, who was speaking after a short ceremony at LIME's Carlton Crescent offices on Thursday where 24 schools were each presented with cheques for $150,000 that will help offset expenses to the Relays.

"I just want to go over there and give a good account of myself and hopefully I get the best performance, God's willing."

company through its LIME Foundation has been helping schools to get to the Penn Relays since 1993.

Barrett expressed gratitude for the assistance the company has continued to offer. "It's a good feeling because if it wasn't for LIME it would be a possibility that we wouldn't be able to go so kudos to LIME because we really appreciate it."

He said his move to Calabar has been enjoyable.

"The transition from Cornwall College to Calabar has gone well," said Barrett who threw 18.75 metres to finish behind Demar Gayle of Edwin Allen who set a new Class One record of 19.52m. "I settled down very quickly and very easily. I knew most of the guys from national trips so it was easy."
