Telecommunications firm commits to social cause
Telecommunications firm Flow has a binding moral obligation to the well-being of the people of Jamaica, hence its big effort in health, fitness and great
causes such as the MoBay City Run, which it is one of the main sponsors.
"Flow is big on corporate/social responsibility; we see it as a major part of our business thrust to engage the public in a meaningful way, and there a few better ways to do this outside events such as the MoBay City Run," said the
firm's corporate communications manager, Naomi Francis.
Francis told The Gleaner that Flow recognises the importance of tertiary education and has put aside a rather sizeable portion of the company's budget for the support of such initiatives as the MoBay City Run, which it has branded as a major sponsor.
extra assistance
Francis said her company recognises that there is a vacuum that must be filled, and that companies such as Flow can play a significant role in helping fix social ills in the country by providing assistance in places where it's needed the most.
"Student loans are not enough; same with scholarships. These are not enough also, as many students in the universities and colleges need extra assistance. That is why we at Flow strive to be part of an event like this one," said Francis.
Flow had a team of 125 participants in this year's Flow MoBay City Run and has added incentives based on the number of 'Likes' and 'Shares' on their Facebook page, which, when past 5,000, will mean an extra $100,000 for the coffers of the City Run.
"Volunteerism is also a big part of our genes at Flow, so 125 of us journeyed here to take part in the MoBay City Run, just to play our part in delivering to students of tertiary institutions an opportunity to help them succeed at the highest level," said Francis.
