MoBay pumped for CFU clash after mauling Waterhouse
Fresh off their 5-1 second-leg (8-2 on aggregate) mauling of Waterhouse in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) semi-final on Sunday, Montego Bay United left the island high on confidence for Florida, en route to Trinidad and Tobago, where they will contest the CFU Club Championship semi-final.
Coach Dr Dean Weatherley said the win over Waterhouse was a great boost. But he insists it'll count for very little, as this is a totally new challenge in unchartered waters.
"It's (win over Waterhouse) a good motivation. We just have to make them (players) understand that that (game) is gone and is now history. We have to look ahead, we have to keep focused and don't be distracted by past achievements. What is in the past is in the past, and you have to look ahead to move to the next level,Weatherley reaffirmed.
The defending Premier League champions, who are playing in this tournament for the very first time, will face W-Connection of Trinidad in the feature semi-final at the Ato Boldon Stadium at 8 p.m. on Friday, while Don Bosco of Haiti will take on Central, from Trinidad and Tobago, in the first semi-final at 6 pm.
Good chances
Weatherley said his only real concern is the reception they will get from the host country and supporters.
"Our chances are as good as anybody else. If we are playing the way we are now and are consistent in what we are doing, we should be successful. We are at a level that we are very competitive right across the board, whether it's in or outside of Jamaica," he said.
"We just hope the players feel good and comfortable, because when you go to these places, they can treat you very good or they can treat you as the worst. So we want to keep the focus and make sure we are not distracted in any way," he concluded.
Some members of the MoBay team departed the island yesterday, while the rest of the team is scheduled to leave today for Florida. The full team is expected to arrive in Trinidad and Tobago by Wednesday.
