UPDATE: Arrest warrant issued for Jack Warner in FIFA corruption case

A provisional warrant has been issued for the arrest of Trinidadian politician and FIFA vice president, Austin ‘Jack’ Warner.
Warner is among 14 people named in a corruption indictment unsealed this morning in a New York Federal Court.

This morning Trinidadian authorities confirmed that they had received an extradition request from US prosecutors and by early this afternoon, attorney general Garvin Nicholas issued a statement saying an arrest warrant had been issued to the police to execute on Warner pending the start of extradition proceedings.
Warner will have the option of waiving his right to an extradition hearing.
This morning he told TV6’s Fazeer Mohammed that US prosecutors knew where to find him.

According to Nicholas, Warner is entitled to a fair extradition process and both the United States and Trinidad intend to ensure that his rights are protected.
Nicholas also revealed that the Central Authority Unit of the Ministry of the Attorney General had been working with the United States for about one year regarding transnational offences involving Warner.
