Jamaica's women crush Guyana in CAREBACO Championship

Jamaica's rampant women's basketball aggregation, Lady Jamrockerz, stormed to a massive 70-43 point win over South American challengers Guyana on Tuesday night in Game Two of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) championships in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI).

Point guard Tarita Gordon finished with 23 points while forward Yanique Gordon stamped her class with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The defending champions were convincing all round, as they took the game to their South American challengers in scoring and turnovers in the first quarter.

Jamaica's streak

Team Jamaica's unstoppable surge then included a 36-28 lead in the second half, for which Guyana had no answer.

They were not done yet and, defensively, Jamaica tightened the fringes to restrict Guyana from scoring a solitary goal, with three minutes and 40 seconds on the clock in the fourth and final quarter.

"Our bench has to learn to play with good continuity with the starters, that's what we are working for," said national coach Anthony Eatman.

"We have what we need, so we just have to get five people working on the court with one common goal," he added.

Unbeaten teams who head groups A and B are Bahamas and Jamaica, respectively.

Jamaica were on course to record their third win of the championships against hosts British Virgin Islands (BVI) last night. The BVI previously lost to Barbados, who Jamaica beat 75-57 in their first game.

The game will be played in the Tortola Multi-purpose Sports Complex tonight at 9 p.m.
