BOXING: Tsetsi Davis backs Russell to beat Moncrieffe in tonight's clash

Wray and Nephew Contender semi-finalist, Tsetsi 'Light Out' Davis is backing Kemahl Russell to win tonight's big semi-final clash against Devon Moncrieffe in the Wray and Nephew Series.

The bout is set to start at 9 p.m. at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium on Old Hope Road.

The fight will be held over eight rounds.

Davis, who will face Richard Holmes in the other semi-final, says Russell is a much smarter and quicker fighter than Moncrieffe.

He also says Russell has a reach advantage over his opponent.

Davis, who is the favourite to win this year's competition, further says tonight's bout will be decided on the judges scorecard. 

Moncrieffe won  the title in 2013 with a split decision verdict over Davis.

Moncrieffe goes in to the battle with a record of 12 wins and four defeats and a belief that he will be crowned champion a second time.

He is known to be an aggressive fighter whose signature punch is an overhand right to the head, and it is expected that Moncrieffe will be going after his opponent very early.

Moncrieffe has already scored two victories in the competition to get to this stage.

Meanwhile, Russell, who is a newcomer to the Contender competition has won both of his fights in impressive fashion this series.

First, he knocked out Kevin Placide in three rounds, and later put so much pressure on Kevin 'Bus Boy' Hylton in the quarterfinals, that he did not answer the bell for the fifth round.

Russell has been a professional fighter since July 2013 and has a five wins and no defeats.
