The Jamaica Tallawahs, led by a fine half-century from captain Chris Gayle, defeated the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by seven wickets in the ninth match of the Caribbean Premier League tonight at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Final scores: St Kitts and Nevis  Patriots 160 for five (20 overs); Jamaica Tallawahs 164 for three (19.1 overs).

Gayle slammed six fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 72 (54 balls) in a match-winning fourth wicket stand of 50 with Andre Russell who scored 21 from 14 balls.

Earlier  Australia batsman Chris Lynn laid the foundation for the win with a brilliant 52 from 33 balls. Lynn struck three fours and four sixes.

The  Patriots' innings was built around 53 from Martin Guptill and  50 by captain Marlon Samuels. Guptill got his runs from 49 balls and Samuels' half century came from 31 balls but 160 was never going to be enough against the strong Tallawahs batting led by Gayle.

Leading wicket-taker for the Tallawahs was  left-arm medium pacer Krishmar Santokie with four for 37.
