Monaco Diamond League: Ethiopia's Dibaba breaks world record in women's 1500m
Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba broke the women's 1500m world record in a dominant performance at the Monaco Diamond League meet at the Stade Louis II a short while ago.
Dibaba, 24, crossed the line in 3:50.07 splitting 60.3, 2:04, 3:04 and 3:50.7 to finish ahead of the Netherlands' Sifan Hassan, who posted a national record 3:56.05 and Shannon Rowbury (USA) who was third in an area record 3:56.29.
The Ethiopian's mark betters China's Yunxia Qu's, 3:50.46 posted in 1993.
In the men's 100m, Justin Gatlin ran without company to the finish line, posting 9.78 to win ahead of Tyson Gay, 9.97 and Jimmy Vicaut, 10.03 in a -0.3 wind.
Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade was sixth in 10.11.
Stephenie-Ann McPherson, 50.41 and Christine Day, 50.66 were second and third to Francena McCorory, 49.83 (world leading) to the line in the women's 400m.
