Despite a valiant effort, Jamaica’s sole representative in the discus throw, Fedrick Dacres, did not finish on the medal podium in the 2015 IAAF World Championships final this morning but said he is proud of his performance.

In what was a close final, Dacres finished seventh in the men's with his best throw of 64.22m.

The former Calabar High athlete was not far off the Bronze medal throw which was 65.18m.

Poland’s  Piotr Malachowski  throw of 67.40m earned  him the win in the final.

"This isn’t the result I wanted but I’m still proud to have qualified for the finals. I hear I’m the first Jamaican to do so, so it’s something to be proud of," said the Pan American Games gold medallist.

The 21-year-old was the only Caribbean athlete in the final.

He entered the final with the furthest throw of 65.77 in the qualifying round.
