Burrell saddened

by death of

Richard Stewart

President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell, has expressed sorrow at the passing of Richard Stewart, chairman of Stewart's Auto Sales, who died on Tuesday.

Speaking on behalf of the executive, management and staff of the JFF, Burrell said: "I wish to express sincerest condolences to his wife, Diana, and children, Jacqueline (Stewart-Lechler) and Duncan."

Stewart's Auto Sales, under its Suzuki brand, has been a near 20-year sponsor of Jamaica's national football programme. The company has provided vehicles for the technical staff as well as support vehicles for all FIFA officials visiting the island.

According to the JFF, the support has been passionately driven by Richard and Diana Stewart.

"Football has lost a loyal friend and supporter of the highest calibre, and Jamaica has lost a true son. We are deeply saddened," Burrell concluded.

500 for Ronaldo

MALMO, Sweden (AP):

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 500th and 501st goals of his career to give Real Madrid a 2-0 win over 10-man Malmo in Group A of the Champions League yesterday.

The Swedish side held off Madrid for nearly half an hour before they were caught off guard by a counterattack as Ronaldo gathered an Isco pass and made no mistake alone with goalkeeper Johan Wiland.

Ronaldo got his second goal of the night in the 89th when he tapped in a pass from Lucas Vazquez in front of goal.

The match wasn't as lopsided as many had expected, with a tough-tackling Malmo chasing an equaliser in the second half. The home side's hopes dimmed in the 78th when left back Yoshimar Yotun was sent off for his second yellow card.

CSKA clip PSV in Champions League

KHIMKI, Russia (AP):

Seydou Doumbia scored twice as CSKA Moscow held off a second-half comeback by PSV Eindhoven to win 3-2 in their Champions League match yesterday.

CSKA led 3-0 at half-time thanks to Ahmed Musa's seventh-minute opener and goals from Doumbia, who scored with a looping header in the 21st minute and from the penalty spot 15 minutes later after PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet brought down Zoran Tosic.

Doumbia could have completed a hat-trick in the Group B match but missed another penalty shortly before halftime.

PSV rallied after the break, with Maxime Lestienne scoring from close range on 60 minutes and firing in a second goal eight minutes later. However, the Dutch team's comeback was blunted when right back Santiago Arias was sent off in the 80th minute.
