Henry stars with three-timer at Caymanas Park

Embattled jockey Wesley 'Callaloo' Henry, who was recently slapped with a 20-raceday suspension by the stewards for not riding MEET JUSTIN on its merits on September 26, highlighted yesterday's nine-race programme at Caymanas Park with three winners, including 2-1 chance MIRACLE STAR, for trainer Patrick Chang in the overnight allowance mile.

His other winners were even-money favourite BATTLE SONG, for trainer Victor Williams in the fourth over the straight, LONG RUNNING TRAIN, for trainer Harry Parsard in the seventh race for the Nasatol Trophy, again over the straight, upstaging title-chasing jockeys Shane Ellis and Robert Halledeen, with two winners each.

The 1997 champion jockey should have started his suspension this Saturday, but he appealed the ban and $10,000 fine imposed by the stewards. On Tuesday, he was granted a stay by the Jamaica Racing Commission and will continue to ride until the appeal is heard.

Henry brought the 6-y-o horse MIRACLE STAR with a well-timed run to catch long-time leader and evens favourite ROYAL VIBES (Halledeen up) within shades of the wire, winning by a neck in a field of seven.

LONG RUNNING TRAIN, who was always prominent on the stands' side in the Nasatol Trophy, swooped down on long-time leader and 3-2 favourite ROYAL ASSAULT (Ellis up) in the last furlong to win by 1 1/2 lengths in the smart time of 57.4.

Henry has ridden 22 winners so far this season to hold down eighth position in the jockeys' standings.
