Edwards pilots Palmer's XI to victory
Coach Junior Bennett has hailed Kirk Edwards as a welcome addition to the Jamaica Scorpions and believes the Barbadian can help the team to turn around its fortunes this season.
Edwards, one of three overseas players hoping to help the Scorpions better their fourth place finish from last season, slammed an unbeaten 115 on the final day of the team's lone warm-up game at Kensington Park yesterday.
Resuming on 99 yesterday Edwards guided Paul Palmer's XI past their victory target of 283.
Scores: David Bernard's XI 235 and 192; Palmer's XI 145 and 285 for three.
"Edwards has looked the part starting with the final trial game and now the warm-up match," cited Bennett.
"It was particularly pleasing to see how he applied himself in the second innings of this match, got his century, and steered the team home."
"It's the sort of form that you want to see from your batsmen, and I thought he (Andre) McCarthy, and (John) Campbell, did that well."
McCarthy, 81, and, Campbell, 55, helped to lay the foundation for the runs chase on the third day.
