Clarendon aim to rebound in ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup

WESTERN BUREAU:

Reigning daCosta Cup champions, Clarendon College, will for the first time this season be mounting a rearguard action, when they host Glenmuir High at the Juici Field in their crucial quarter-final Group S game this afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

In an unfamiliar situation as this, head coach Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis will be positing in the minds of the players that only a victory will do, following last week’s surprise loss to Dinthill Technical.

The other Group S clash will see the leaders, Rusea’s and Dinthil,l lock horns at Dinthill High School playing field.

The group, which consists of the champions and three former winners of the competition, is looking like a death-bed at the moment, with only the winners from each of the four groups able to qualify to the semi-finals.

Clarendon College can get back in contention with victory over Glenmuir. But that in itself will be a tough ask, as the Jackie Walters-coached Glenmuir are also hunting a win that will almost surely define their daCosta Cup season and keep the door open, with two matches remaining for a place in the last four.

Beaten finalists last years, STETHS and Vere Technical will meet in a top-of-the-table clash in Santa Cruz. Both teams are coming off important victories last week over Marcus Garvey and Mannings, respectively.

The winner will take sole leadership of Group R, where The Mannings School and Marcus Garvey, needing a win, seek an outside shot at advancing at each other’s expense. They meet in Savanna la-Mar.

Group P is being led by Lacovia High - on goal difference - over Paul Bogle and both stand a good chance of winning in their respective matches. Lacovia travel to meet St James High at Jarrett Park, while Paul Bogle tackle Manchester in the tougher of the two fixtures.
