TORONTO, Canada (CMC):

Seven-time Woodbine champion Patrick Husbands continued to ensure daylight between himself and Alan Garcia by riding a handsome brace at the renowned Toronto oval here Wednesday.

The 42-year-old captured race two with favourite Six Inch Heels before also taking race six with 5-1 bet Kingsport on the eight-race mid-week card.

With the success, Husbands strengthened his hold on third spot in the Woodbine jockey standings with 113 wins, 21 clear of Garcia who lies fourth on 92.

Meanwhile, Brazilian Eurico Rosa da Silva continued to close in on his second Woodbine title with 191 wins, well clear now of main challenger Mexican Luis Contreras, who is second on 172.

Husbands opened his account over seven furlongs when he steered Six Inch Heels to a solid 2-1/2 length victory over the three-year-old and upward maiden fillies and mares.

Six Inch Heel found herself locked in a three-way tussle through the half run in 46.97 seconds as Amie's Angel and La Gran Emily all disputed the lead.

Swinging for home, Husband managed to get the three-year-old bay filly clear and she persisted to reach the wire under little pressure in the end.

In race six, Husbands produced a stalking ride aboard the three-year-old colt Kingsport to beat the three-year-olds and upward by a length.

The Woodbine season wraps on Sunday.
