Late wickets jolt Jamaica Scorpions

Jamaica Scorpions lost two wickets just before close yesterday to put their WICB First-Class Championship clash against Guyana Jaguars in the balance heading into today's second day at Sabina Park.

The wickets, that of nightwatchman, Damion Jacobs, dismissed for zero off what turned out to be the last ball of the day, and Scorpions debutant, Antiguan Devon Thomas, 30, moments earlier, left Jamaica struggling at 63 for four.

This is in chase of a first innings target of 189 scored by the Jaguars, which saw in-form spinner, Nikita Miller, taking a six-wicket haul.

Winning the toss, and sending Guyana to bat, Jamaica had to endure a somewhat lukewarm first session with the Jaguars going to lunch at 80 for four.

The Jaguars, after seeing out the early moisture in the wicket, were kept going by West Indies opener Assad Fudadin, who fell 15 minutes before the break.

The left-handed Fudadin made 47 before he fell to Miller while his opening partner, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, chipped in with 12. Captain Leon Johnson, 16, and all-rounder Raymon Reifer, zero, were the other batsmen to fall.

After the break, it then became the Miller show as exercising his customary good control, and using bounce, flight and turn, he was able to take another five wickets.

He eventually ended up with six for 46, while part-time off-spinner, John Campbell, who got the ball to turn sharply, supported best with three for 45.

Vishual Singh, 45, and Chris Barnwell, 23, were the next best scorers.
