Norwich moved closer to relegation on an afternoon that saw Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger subjected to calls for his sacking. Gunners fans protested inside and out of the Emirates, though they secured a valuable win with a Danny Welbeck half-volley. The result leaves Norwich in 19th place, two points from safety with three games remaining.

EVERTON 2 AFC BOURNEMOUTH 1

GOALS:-EVERTON: CLEVERLEY 7; BAINES 64. BOURNEMOUTH: PUGH 9.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was another to face calls for his head despite seeing his side beat Bournemouth. Tom Cleverley drove in a low shot early on, but within seconds the Cherries levelled through Marc Pugh. Leighton Baines claimed the winner for Everton, but fans stayed behind to protest against Martinez.

NEWCASTLE UNITED 1 CRYSTAL PALACE 0

GOAL:-NEWCASTLE: TOWNSEND 58.

Newcastle moved out of the relegation zone, thanks to Andros Townsend's magnificent free kick and keeper Karl Darlow's penalty save. Townsend gave Newcastle the lead after half-time, but Yohan Cabaye, once of Newcastle, saw his late penalty saved by third-choice Darlow. The win sees Newcastle a point above Sunderland and two clear of Norwich.

STOKE CITY 1 SUNDERLAND 1

GOALS:-STOKE: ARNAUTOVIC 50. SUNDERLAND: DEFOE PEN 90.

Jermaine Defoe's added-time penalty helped Newcastle rescue a point but dropped into the relegation zone after rivals Newcastle beat Palace. Marko Arnautovic gave Stoke the lead and Sunderland struggled to create chances in response, until Geoff Cameron tangled with Defoe in the 93rd minute and the former England striker made no mistake from the spot.

WATFORD 3 ASTON VILLA 2

GOALS:-ABDI; DEENEY 90, 90. VILLA: CLARK 28; AYEW 48.

Troy Deeney's two late goals denied Aston Villa what would have been only their fourth league win of the season. Ciaran Clark headed Villa's opener, but Almen Abdi equalised for Watford. Jordan Ayew's low drive restored Villa's lead, but Aly Cissokho was sent off with 17 minutes to play. Deeney levelled in added time and within seconds slotted home the winner.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 0 WEST HAM UNITED 3

GOALS:-WEST HAM: KOUYATE 34; NOBLE 45, 79.

Mark Noble scored twice to extended West Ham's unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League to 10 games. Cheikhou Kouyate headed the Hammers ahead before Noble scuffed a shot prior to the break to extend the visitors' advantage. Noble added his second and West Ham's third when he volleyed home from Andy Carroll's cross.

SUNDAY, MAY 1

SOUTHAMPTON 4 MANCHESTER CITY 2

GOALS:-SOUTHAMPTON: LONG 25; MANE 28, 57, 68. CITY: IHEANACHO 44, 78).

Manchester City's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League remain in the balance after Sadio Mane netted a hat-trick. Shane Long opened the scoring before Mane doubled the lead, though Kelechi Iheanacho replied for the visitors. Mane then scored twice to make sure of the win, though Iheanacho found the top corner late on.

SWANSEA CITY 3 LIVERPOOL 1

GOALS:-SWANSEA: AYEW 20, 67; CORK 33. LIVERPOOL: BENTEKE.

Swansea City dismantled Liverpool to make sure of their Barclays Premier League status. Andre Ayew's header and a Jack Cork goal put the hosts in charge; and though Christian Benteke headed home for Liverpool, Ayew's second goal swiftly ended those aspirations. Brad Smith was then sent off for Liverpool, whose hopes of Champions League qualification now rest on winning the Europa League.
