Maverley/Hughenden, Jamalco hunt second wins in Charley's JB Rum Premier League Playoffs

Maverley/Hughenden and Jamalco will hunt their second consecutive victory when the teams face Brazil FC and Granville United, respectively, in the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Charley's JB Rum Premier League playoffs today.

Maverley-Hughenden won 1-0 at Granville on Sunday Jamalco also scored a crucial away win, 2-1, at Drax Hall over Brazil.

The number of goals scored has placed Jamalco atop the standings, despite also having three points as Maverley-Hughenden. Brazil and Granville are yet to get off the mark.

Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League champions, Maverley/Hughenden, will host Eastern Confederation Super League winners, Brazil.

South Central Confederation Super League champions, Jamalco, welcome Western Confederation Super League winners, Granville United, at Wembley Centre of Excellence. Both games start at 3:30 p.m.

Maverley/Hughenden are high on confidence following a crucial away win against Granville three days ago and will look towards another victory playing at home.

Coach of Maverley/Hughenden, Lijyasu Simms, said he is not expecting an easy game against Brazil.

"Brazil won't lie down and die. We are all Super League champions, so every game is like a final. We are coming hard as at home is where the heart is," Simms told The Gleaner yesterday during his team's training session.

"That away win against Granville is very important. We are taking it step by step. We will be without Wayne Williams, who was red-carded on Sunday. He will be missed, but we have a squad of players, so he will be replaced," Simms added.

Maverley-Hughenden will look to players such as Phillip Peddie, who scored the lone goal in Sunday's 1-0 win, captain Andrew Peddlar, plus veterans Kasai Hinds and Roberto Fletcher, for a crucial home win.

Brazil suffered defeat to Jamalco at home and are fully aware that another setback would put them in danger of not making the step up to Premier League football next season.

"We found out our downfall in the first game, so we just have to go down to Maverley and capitalise on our chances," said Brazil's head coach, David Galloway.

Brazil will rely on Deandre Thomas, Carlos Campbell and Imani Beckford to get their campaign off the ground.

In the other game, Jamalco will be highly motivated for another win.

"After getting three points on the road, it was a big boost, but we don't want to get complacent. The players are up and ready for the game tomorrow (today)," said Jamalco's head coach, Rayon Johnson.

Brazil's main players include captain Erron Brown, Andrew Isaacs, Renoir Elliott and Creggton Charlton.

After losing at home, Granville will travel to Clarendon in search of a positive results in order to stay close in the race for a spot in the Premier League.

Tracey Reid-coached Granville will hunt victory through Lenardo Whyte and Mario Samuels mainly.

The four teams are battling on a round robin, home-and-away basis for two spots in the Premier League. At the completion of their six-match schedule, the top two on points will qualify.
