Wold Championships silver medallist Elaine Thompson sprinted her way to a win ahead of the USA's English Gardner in the women's 100m at the Golden Gala Rome Diamond League inside the Stadio Olimpico today.

Thompson clocked 10.87 to register a season's best time.

Thompson, who ran the 200m at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on May 28 said that she feels like she is getting better.

Thompson said: "I have to really see the replay properly to see where I possibly messed up but I think I executed the best I can. It can get better, but I know I have to just work on it and stay focused.

"I feel like I am getting better and better each time I race and I know I will continue to improve."

Gardner, 10.92, placed second while the USA's Barbara Pierre, 11.13, placed third.
