ROME, Italy:

Minutes after posting her second fastest time in the 100 metres, Jamaican speedster Elaine Thompson says she is growing in confidence in the event, and while she hopes to attempt the sprint double this year, that decision is still to be made.

The Jamaican clocked 10.87 (+0.8) a time only bettered by her 10.84, recorded at the Prefontaine Classic last year, as she won at the Golden Gala Rome Diamond League ahead of Americans English Gardner, 10.92, and Barbara Pierre, 11.13.

It was Thompson's fourth straight win this season.

Thompson, the 200m silver medal winner at last year's IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, has been impressing in the shorter sprint since hitting gear last season and has now only suffered two losses in her 13 starts in the event.

The decision by her coach at the MVP Track Club, Stephen Francis, to have her focus on just the 200m at the World Championships last year certainly paid dividends with the athlete's 21.66 seconds, silver-medal winning run also making her the second-fastest Jamaican ever in the half-lap event.

Nonetheless, the athlete, while admitting that she would love to attempt both the 100m and the 200m at this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, is more than happy to focus on whatever her coach decides is best for her at this point.

"Hopefully, yes I want to (run the 100m at the Olympics), but it (my focus) will be on whatever's best for me right now," Thompson said.

"I am very comfortable in the 100m. I'm confident running the 100m. I have to get better in my first 30m or 40m and that's something that I keep working on each time I run the event. I feel that it is getting better and better each time and it will continue to improve," added Thompson, who also gave her impressions of yesterday's race.

"I just went out there to execute a good race. I'm not sure if I did a good job with that, but that was the focus," she said. "I have to really see the replay properly to see where I possibly messed up, but I think I did my best with the execution. It can get better, but I know I have to just work on it and stay focused."
