Ten straight St James U-13 titles for Corinaldi

Corinaldi Avenue Primary's stranglehold on the Burger King/St James Under-13 netball crown remains intact, following their battling 14-8 victory in the final against Anchovy Primary on Thursday at the Montego Bay Boys and Girls' Club.

Third place in the month-long competition went to Howard Cooke Primary, who slammed Hosana Prep 18-2 in another lopsided score line.

Gena Haughton, St James Netball Association president, said the league continues to inspire and develop players.

"When you look at these talented young ladies in this final, and, indeed, throughout the season, there is no doubt many will find their place in the various national teams in the future," Haughton said.

Jessica James, the starting goal shoot for Corinaldi, had them off to a fast start, scoring all four goals early on.

Corinaldi had their short, snappy passes going quickly, allowing little time for Anchovy to set their defence properly.

Anchovy had their moments, too, however, and should have made the final score a lot closer, except that they had too many unforced errors.

In fact, apart from the first quarter, which Corinaldi edged 4-3, Anchovy had little answer for the Dian Tinglin-coached team. They took complete control in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 5-1 en route to the six-point victory and the $30,000 first-place cheque and trophy.

Anchovy took home the second-place trophy and a cheque valued at $20,000. Third-place Howard Cooke pocketed $15,000, while fourth-place Hosana Prep received $10,000. Johns Hall Primary were adjudged the consolation winner and were presented with a trophy.

Corinaldi goalshooter Shelly-Ann Hall won the season's MVP award, with the leading goal scorer tag going to Howard Cooke's Shenequa Vassell for her 38 goals in the tournament.
