Peter Chin remains JGA president

Peter Chin was returned as president of the Jamaica Golf Association at the annual general meeting held at the Constant Spring Golf Club on Tuesday.

The following persons were also elected to the 2016-2017 executive committee: vice president - Dr Mark Newnham; treasurer - Vikram Dhiman; assistant secretary - Gregory Chong; ladies' representative - Herma Coe. Committee members: Patrick Boyne, Johann Campbell, Dave Lyn, Alison Lynn and Alison Reid. Secretary Frederick Sutherland will continue serving his two-year term in the position.

Bairstow century lifts England

LONDON (AP):

Jonny Bairstow's unbeaten 107 saved England on the first day of the third Test against Sri Lanka yesterday, taking the hosts to 279-6 at stumps after they were struggling on 84-4 on a good batting pitch at Lord's.

Bairstow made his third career century - all of them have come this year - to give England a sense of relief after captain Alastair Cook opted to bat first on a surface that appeared tailor-made for a big first-innings total.

Bairstow survived a dropped catch when he was on 11 and a close leg before decision on 56.

Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, and Rangana Herath took two wickets each for the tourists, with Herath's 2-45 the best figures.

Pakistan Amir gets UK visa for tour

ISLAMABAD (AP):

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir has received a United Kingdom (UK) visa and will travel with Pakistan to England on June 18 for the four-Test cricket series.

The Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement yesterday that it has been "officially informed that the UK government has approved the visa" for Amir.

There was some doubt because Amir served half of his six-month jail sentence in England when he was banned for five years for spot-fixing in 2010 at Lord's along with teammates Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt.
