Gayle wants Tallawahs to improve

Jamaica Tallawahs captain Chris Gayle believes mistakes were made in their five-run victory away to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Hero MotoCorp Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 match on Saturday and, come today, when they play away again to the Trinidad and Tobago Knight Riders at Queen's Park Oval, he is hopeful that the errors will be corrected.

In what was their first game of the tournament, the Tallawahs posted a competitive 153 for seven, with Gayle hitting a topscore of 51, all-rounder Andre Russell ending not out on 34, and Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakarra adding 26.

The Patriots scored 148 for seven, with unheralded St Vincent and the Grenadines fast bowler Kesrick Williams taking three for 16, and South African speedster Dale Steyn, two for 14, leading the charge.

"We will try to look at where we made some mistakes and try and build in the second game,'' said Gayle ahead of today's contest, which will represent the fifth game of 34-game league.

"Overall, it (first game) was a great all-round performance for us as a couple of the guys were playing in their first game, so obviously there was going to be nerves. But we kept our composure, which was actually good.

''We got off to a decent start as St Kitts were in line to pull us back for maybe 120 runs. But Russell came in towards the end and played a big knock for us and gave us a decent total to actually play with.

"We then did well with the ball as Kesrick Williams was brilliant for us and Dayle Steyn was fantastic. Our spinners, as well, played a phenomenal part, with Shakib Al Hasan, Imad Wasim and Jon-Russ Jaggesar doing a good job."

The Tallawahs, in an attempt to win the second of four away opening fixtures, are likely to boast an unchanged squad despite the failure of a couple of their batsmen.

The usually attacking Chadwick Walton, who made three off five balls, is again expected to partner Gayle at the top of the innings, while the other two front-line batsmen, young Jamaica prodigy Rovman Powell and Bangladesh all-rounder Al Hasan, are set to retain their places.

Powell, making his debut, made four of seven balls, while Al Hasan scored seven off 15 deliveries.
