Clarendon target five straight wins in ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup
WESTERN BUREAU:
Former winners Clarendon College will this afternoon seek to maintain their stranglehold on Zone H of the 2016 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)-FLOW daCosta Cup when they tackle Knox College.
The Paul 'Tegat' Davis-coached Clarendon College is one of two schools with a 100 per cent win record, the other being Lennon High, who will travel to meet Thompson Town High in another matchup, where a win for them and a loss for Clarendon would see them sweeping into the lead.
Clarendon have amassed 12 points from four matches to lead Lennon, on 10 points, while Thompson Town (nine), Edwin Allen (six) and Knox (four) are next in that order. Claude McKay are last in the zone, having lost all their five matches.
The third match in that zone pits Claude McKay against Edwin Allen High.
"We feel that we are doing well at the moment," said Davis. "This team is playing as we expected, and like every other opponent, we will not take this Knox team lightly.
"We have not won anything yet and we are aware that we have a long way to go. We will just continue playing good football and work hard for the results we need," added Davis.
In the buildup to this game, Clarendon College have been on a goal spree, hitting the target 23 times in their four games, while conceding only once.
TROUBLING GOAL DIFFERENCE
Knox, on the other hand, have conceded 10 goals. They have scored just five and therein is their worry.
Against a strong-running, strong-tackling team such as Clarendon, they will need to be a lot more disciplined in front of the goal if they intend to get at least a point from this match, but it's looking unlikely given their rarity of goals.
Meanwhile, over in Zone D, Coach Jeffery Reece has had his team - the surprisingly good Little London High - playing at an optimum, and they will start favourites against Manning's.
Little London occupy the highest place in the standings since the school first entered the competition. They have nine points, six adrift zone leaders Godfrey Stewart (15).
