She's A Maneater slams them

The unbeaten SHE'S A MANEATER turned in another superlative performance at Caymanas Park yesterday to win the 12th running of the $2.95 million Cash Pot 'Only One For Me' Trophy over 1200 metres race number one in the Supreme Ventures Triple Crown Series for two-year-olds.

Installed a howling 1-4 favourite, with leading jockey Omar Walker riding for 15-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and owner-breeder Winston Kong, SHE'S A MANEATER chased the early leader MONEY MAGNET (6-1) at close range, passing the half mile before surging through on the outside approaching the home turn.

Talented filly

Thereafter, it was smooth sailing as the talented filly by Natural Selection out of the 2009 Horse of the Year Ahwhofah, on whom Walker won the Gold Cup that year, moved away from MONEY MARKET to beat her by six lengths. The latter just held on for second from the winner's stable-companion, ARMAGEDDON (6-1), closing from last position under Ameth Robles after missing the break.

SHE'S A MANEATER, who is unbeaten in two starts having romped the Front Runner Trophy race over 1100 metres in fast time on her recent debut, covered the distance in the smart time of 1:11.3 behind splits of 22.3 and 45.4 for the half mile. This was four-fifths of a second outside the stakes record set by the outstanding filly PRINCESS POPSTAR in this very race in 2013 when she was voted the first two-year-old to be crowned Horse of the Year.

Feels confident

PRINCESS POPSTAR, who was trained by Philip Feaany, went on to win all three races in the series and already comparisons have been made to her by fans of SHE'S A MANEATER.

Walker was so impressed by the victory that he referred to the filly as "a machine", and wondered aloud as to who gave her that name in conversation with the owner, who feels confident that she could sweep the series like Popstar.

Walker and DaCosta teamed up for a second winner on the card with 9-5 favourite DYSFUCTIONAL in the third race over 1820 metres. Elsewhere, top apprentice Bebeto Harvey rode his second consecutive three-timer to move past outgoing champion Shane Ellis to third in the standings with 41 winners, while female apprentice Andree Powell celebrated her 27th birthday with an easy win aboard 8-1 chance MAJOR FORCE in the sixth race, and veteran jockey Vassell 'Jollyman' Najair booted home 7-2 chance FIX IT UP in race two at age 63.
