Scorpions struggling at Sabina Park

The lack of an adequate drainage system that forced play to be abandoned on day one was again in focus on day two of the third round at the Digicel WICB Four-day Championship clash between Jamaica Scorpions and front runners Barbados Pride at Sabina Park yesterday.

The umpires were to forced abandon play at 4:15 p.m., shortly after tea, following a brief shower during the interval.

The Jamaica Scorpions, sent into bat, were struggling at 157 for eight when play was called off, with captain Nikita Miller unbeaten on five, and Reynard Leveridge yet to get off the mark.

Earlier, opener John Campbell top-scored with a stroke-filled 60, for his third half-century in five innings, with Damion Jacobs getting 30.

"The weather has been kind of affecting us a bit,"' stated Jacobs. "The outfield, the delays, and the general conditions, but we have to keep our heads up.We have been bowling well since the start of the season, and the mindset is to just come and see how many more runs we can get,'' he added.

The Scorpions were 52 for five at one stage and appeared likely to fall for under 150. They were, however, kept afloat by Campbell, who struck five fours in his 142 balls innings, which lasted three hours and 24 minutes.

Kenroy Williams (2-16), Kemar Roach (2-24) and Justin Greaves (2-40) were the leading bowlers for the Pride.

"It is a good position to be in," assessed Barbados coach Emerson Trotman.'' I would have liked to be in a better position, of course, and would be a little bit out of our plans. But we have got to be thankful as Jamaica are still a good side.

Play is scheduled to resume at 9:30 a.m. today.
