'Hit Man' Russell back in the ring on March 14
Jamaican middleweight hopeful, Kemahl 'Hit Man' Russell, will be taking on another dangerous prospect, Ukranian Sergiy Derevyanchenko, in one of the feature bouts on a card at the Fitzgerald's Casino and Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi, on Friday, March 14.
It will be a clash of unbeaten middleweights, as Russell is now 10-0 and his opponent is 9-0.
Russell should have fought last week, but that bout fell through at the last moment. His manager, Leiza-May Keane, told The Gleaner yesterday that "we are so happy that this bout became possible and we signed the contracts today. Kemahl is anxious to get back into the ring and he is a happy man today".
An interesting statistic is that both fighters have superb knockout records. Russell has won eight of his fights inside the distance, while Derevyanchenko has won seven of his nine bouts by the knockout or technical knockout route.
Russell told The Gleaner yesterda, that he was very happy to get back into the ring, having not fought since October, and is ready for the dangerous opponent that he will be fighting.
"His record is similar to mine and I can see from his knockouts that he is a great puncher. I am ready to rumble, however, and may the best man win," he said. Russell's last win was against Henry Mercer in Macon, Georgia, USA, on October 23 last year, where he knocked him out in two rounds. This fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.
