KSAFA U-20 set for next Tuesday

The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association-Alliance MoneyGram-McKay Security Under-20 competition is set to begin next Tuesday. With defending champions Boys' Town set to face off against Olympic Gardens in the lone game set for Collie Smith Drive, starting at 4 p.m. KSAFA's competitions committee Chairman Marc Williams yesterday outlined the format of the annual Under-20 competition during the launch at Scotiabank Sports Club in Liguanea.

"There will be 32 participating KSAFA teams, plus guest team Portmore United. However, Portmore will not earn any point during their participation. The teams are in four groups based on geographical locations. At the completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each zone will advance to the quarter-final knockout stage," Williams explained.

Alliance MoneyGram is the main sponsor of the competition having pumped $1.2 million into the tournament with McKay Security contributing an additional $700,000. Partner Locker Room Sports will present 32 sets of gear, including jerseys and shorts, to the participating clubs valued at $1.6 million. Each club will receive 20 gear.

New KSAFA President Wayne Shaw praised the sponsors for continuing their support of the competition.

"The renewal of sponsorship by Alliance MoneyGram and McKay Security of the Under-20 competition forms part of our development programme. We also thank Locker Room Sports for their contribution of gear," Shaw said.

Alliance MoneyGram's Marketing Officer Brandon Chin highlighted the value of youth development, which he pointed to as a major factor in their continued support of the competition.

"We are pleased to be back as sponsors, as the development of young people is very important. We hope young people can turn their dreams into reality.

Now, we look forward to a competitive and discipline season from the clubs," Chin said.

Meanwhile, the teams in Zone A reads: Allman-Woodford, Barbican, Cavalier SC, Santos, Mountain View, Real Mona, Swallowfield and UWI FC; Zone B Brown's Town, Bull Bay, Central Kingston, Harbour View, New Kingston, Rae Town, Rockfort and Tivoli Gardens; Zone C - Arnett Gardens, Boys' Town, Greenwich, Maxfield Park, Molynes United, Olympic Gardens, Seaview Gardens and Whitfield Town; and Zone D Constant Spring, Cooreville Gardens, Duhaney Park, Meadforest, Pembroke Hall, Stony Hill, Maverley-Hughenden, Waterhouse and Portmore United.
