Start with Loose Cannon

The Sunrise Pick-6 is expected to grab the attention of most punters at Caymanas Park tomorrow as it offers a $1.5 million carry-over.

While the second Pick-6 was caught by a handful of punters, each receiving $170,000, none was as fortunate in Pick-9 wagering, necessitating a carryover of just over $1 million.

We look at the first Super-6 which gets underway with a 1100-metre race for native-bred three-year-olds to be contested by seven starters, including

the unbeaten TWILIGHT DREAMS and LOOSE CANNON. It will definitely come down to a straight fight between the two. TWILIGHT DREAMS won in fast time on his March 11 debut over the straight and reports with Lasix for the first time and LOOSE CANNON (a recent winner) had to settle for second to DON CHASSIS in the recent Sir Howard Stakes over 1200 metres.

The Carl Anderson-owned and trained TWILIGHT DREAMS really impressed in a fast 59.1 for 1000 metres straight and now better for this race (Oneil Mullings up), will not go down easily. However, 16-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and five-time champion jockey Omar Walker can do nothing wrong as a team of late and LOOSE CANNON, a fast time winner over the round-five course on his February 11 debut, should win.

BARS OF GOLD, who has been a model of consistency, is tipped to go one better in the second race over 1700 metres for $350,000 to $300,000-claiming horses. The six-year-old gelding ran on strongly last time out on March 4 as the favourite, but failed by a neck to catch the bang in form LIGHT BRIGADE in the Clifford Stewart Memorial Cup over 1200 metres.

NEW MANAGEMENT

Reporting under new management (claimed), BARS OF GOLD, to again be ridden by in-form Jevanne Erwin, but this time for trainer Paul Smith, will relish this easier pace and win from the very fit MONEYNEVERSLEEP, NATASHADONTPLAY and the bold front runner SPORTING CLAY.

MUSKETOON, to be ridden by top apprentice Linton Steadman for trainer Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, has been coming along steadily and following his recent third to SILENCE over 1100 metres, the 3-y-o son of Storm Craft should upstage TWILIGHT STORM (Dane Nelson up) and UNCLE VINNIE (Bebeto Harvey) in the third race for maidens over 1500 metres. MUSKETOON should be seen to better advantage over the longer distance and having been kept on the move at exercise, should make no mistake.

One of the more open races on the card is the fourth (high-claiming) to be contested by nine fit horses over the straight. The field includes the recent course winners LITTLE BIG HORN, GOLD MEMBER and FIFTYONESTORM, as well as ZUGULU, who finished a close third to LITTLE BIG HORN last Saturday, VISION, MESMERISE and speedy DR BANNER, who can overcome his unfavourable draw at post position one.

Clearly a race to use multiple choices, but ZUGULU, now best drawn on the outside with Orlando Foster up, seems ready to score an overdue win, having raced close up a week ago to finish a mere length away third to LITTLE BIG HORN and PRINCESS EMANUELLE.

The last two races in the first Super-6 should be won by down in class SUNDANCE (Dane Dawkins up) and CHIEF PROSPECT, who failed in his bid to complete the hat-trick last time out. Steadman, who still enjoys a 2.0kg apprentice claim, has the ride.
