Ballaz Academy won the 2017 Norbrook Football Cup after an exciting 4-3 victory over defending champions Wolmer's Preparatory School in the final at the Emmanuel Christian Academy ground yesterday.

The Ballaz led 3-0 at half time before Wolmer's rallied to tie the game at 3-3 late in the second half.

However, Ballaz, who dominated most of the game, netted the winning goal with less than two minutes remaining.

Andre Virtue, director of Ballaz Academy, said he was very pleased with his team's performance.

"I felt good. The team played some good football and the competition was good," said Virtue.

"I think at this age, this kind of exposure for the kids is critical for their development," he said.

Meanwhile, Raymond Leveridge, coach of Wolmer's Prep, said his team tried their best.

"I am not disappointed. I am extremely proud of the team as it took the final to beat us," said Leveridge.

WOLMER'S OUTSCORED

"We were the defending champions and we were outscored, but I am proud of the boys for their display," he added. "We were 3-0 down and we were 3-3 all at a point in the second half and so I can't be disappointed."

Meanwhile, Emmanuel won the third-place trophy after a 4-2 win over Norbrook Academy.

Twenty-one teams took part in the three-week tournament.
