Jackie Bell KO heats up with big double-header
The Jamaica National Visa/Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell knockout competition continues today with a double-header at Constant Spring Complex in St Andrew.
In the first game, the nation's number one ranked team, UWI FC, will tackle Super League contenders Barbican in the opener, starting at 6:30 p.m. Then, two premier league clubs - Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View square off at 8:30 p.m.
The UWI are leaders in the Red Stripe Premier League and favoured to get the better of Barbican. However, the winners will come from the teams that wants it more.
Coach of UWI, Marcel 'Fuzzy' Gayle, admits that his team will be the favourites.
AIM IS TO WIN
"Our aim is to win every competition, so the attitude will be the same. UWI will turn up to play good football and win. We are favourites but it will be two teams on the pitch tomorrow," Gayle told The Gleaner yesterday.
The UWI team will rely on top players Patrick Brown, Girvon Brown, Keammar 'Dada' Daley, Kemar Flemmings and Andre Bernal.
Barbican will look to goalkeeper Nicholas Campbell, Locksley Thompson, Akino Bailey and Ramone McGregor to upset the nation's top team.
In the other game, it will be a big clash between two Premier League outfits for a spot in the last four.
Tivoli Gardens have a very good attacking unit, including the RSPL's top goal scorer in former national and overseas attacker Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson, Junior McGregor, Elton Thompson, Jermaine Parris and Rohan Reid.
On the other hand, Harbour View key players will be Sean Fraser, Akeem Priestly, Kemar Bennett, Nicholas Beckett and Andre Messam.
The winners will advance to last four of the competition named in honour of Winthorpe 'Jackie' Bell, who died during the FIFA World Cup in Mexico in 1986.
