Captain of Cavalier SC, Ryan Miller, is confident his club will make a swift return to the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

Cavalier were demoted last year to the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League, where they are the standout team this season and have already secured a spot in the semi-finals of the league.

"I am enjoying my role as captain of the team so far," the 20-year-old, who is the top scorer in the Super League and Jackie Bell competition, told The Gleaner.

"The aim is to get Cavalier back in the premier league. We have a youthful squad that is improving. We beat Waterhouse in the Jackie Bell semi-finals on Sunday night and that serves as a morale booster going forward," Miller said.

Miller represented Cavalier in the RSPL last but wanted to move when the team was relegated. However, he was convinced to stay by close friends and teammates, Nicholas Hamilton and Oshane Jenkins.

'I really wanted to play in the premier league this season, but after discussions with Hamilton and Jenkins, as well as the Cavalier management, I decided to stay.

"Now, with this group of players, especially Alex Marshall (St George's College star), I am confident that Cavalier can return to the premier league," Miller said.

GREAT BOND

He admitted that the bond formed with Hamilton and Jenkins helped because they have been playing together for some six years.

"Before a game, we talk, and because of the understanding, it is easier to play together. I also enjoy playing with Alex," he reasoned.

Miller won the schoolboy triple in 2011 and the double in 2012 with St George's College.

The former national Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 midfielder wants to move up to the senior team, and also aims to play professionally overseas.

However, Miller has bow legs and this hampers his movement.

"I was born with bow legs. When I was a member of the Under-20 team, the coach, Luciano, offered to take me to Brazil to have the legs broken (then reset). But I refused, because I was not sure what would happen after (the operation)," the former St George's College Manning Cup star pointed out.

"I think I am moving faster now," Miller added.
