I can go all the way - Phil Rose
Canadian Phil Rose, who beat Jamaican Ricardo Planter by a split decision in the Wray and Nephew Contender Junior Middleweight Boxing Series on Wednesday night, believes he can build on the performance and go all the way in the competition.
Judges Linden Allen scored the close bout 48-47, Jeremy Hayes, 47-48, and Ransford Burton, 49-46. Rose said he dominated the bout and did what he had to do. However, he said Planter's style confused him during the contest held at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium on Old Hope Road.
"Every time I approached him, he put his head down and he was into me so I couldn't fire off like I wanted to," Rose said.
He said he knows that to win the competition, he will be facing tougher opponents than Planter and he told The Gleaner what he needs to do in order to ensure he goes all the way in the tournament.
"Hard training, back to the gym, and just keep working hard. It took a lot to get used to this heat, so the more I come back, the better I'll be," he said.
