Windies steering towards defeat at end of day 4

West Indies will have to produce a Herculean batting effort on tomorrow’s final day if they are to get a result from the ongoing first Brighto Paints-Q Mobile Test against Pakistan at Sabina Park.

The Jason Holder-captained regional side, trailing by 121 runs of first innings after Pakistan scored 407 in their first innings in reply to their 286, reached a precarious 93 for four at the end of today’s fourth and penultimate day.

This means that they are still 28 runs behind with most of their top order batsmen already in the pavilion.

Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieron Powell, who put on 22 for the first wicket, were dismissed for 14 and 49, respectively, while Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope could only manage 20 and six.

Night watch batsman, leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, and one of two remaining specialist batsmen, debutant Vishual Singh, are the not out batsmen. Both are yet to get off the mark.

The other specialist batsman remaining is Roston Chase.

Leading the charge for Pakistan is Yasir Shah, who in nine overs telling leg-spin, has taken all the wickets to fall. He has impressive figures of four for 33. 

Earlier, the West Indies were parried in the field by bowling efforts from their new-ball opening pair of fast bowlers, Alzarri Joseph and Shannon Gabriel.

Joseph claimed three for 71 and Gabriel three for 92.

Pakistan, in the meantime, were spearheaded to their total by captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who after being dropped twice, went on to post an unbeaten 99 not out.

Play is scheduled to resume tomorrow at 9:30 am.
