Start with Colt Of Arms
Trainer Ryan Darby and jockey Shane Ellis hold the keys to the opening race in tomorrow's Sunrise-6 at Caymanas Park.
Darby will saddle three starters in the three-year-old only event over 1820 metres. Ellis rides the trainer's best hope, the well-bred COLT OF ARMS, a full brother to former classic contender Southern Cruise. Both are bred by Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Karl Samuda and owned by Hyde Valley Farms.
COLT OF ARMS has competed just once, a tame effort behind Henry The Second on April 22. His exercise reports, however, suggest he can do much better than the 1:38.2 he did for 1500 metres on that day, and with Ellis remaining on board, there is every likelihood that we will see a vastly improved performance.
E.J. MAKIT was also in that April 22 event and finished well ahead of COLT OF ARMS (eleven lengths). The Delroy Wisdom-trained E.J. MAKIT showed negative tendencies (slowly out) on his next start, however, and the well-bred COLT OF ARMS is now ready to show his true class.
At just 47kg MIRACLE RECOVERY will not be beaten in race two, a bottom-of-the-barrel 1000 metres straight event for horses who have not earned $120,000 since January 13.
The ten-year-old mare carried 55kg on her last outing on April 29 and was not disgraced in finishing sixth by four-and-a-half lengths to Bullet Raj. She will be 8kg lighter tomorrow and the female apprentice, Andree Powell, should have an easy win.
EYESON CODED SECRET
The third race for four-year-old and up maidens going 1400 metres looks tailored for CODED SECRET with the sparingly used jockey Anthony Sybble aboard.
CODED SECRET was strongly whispered and chased the consistent Leekout all the way for 1600 metres last time out and only failed by half a length to nab the favourite. The splits for that race were 24.3x47.3x1:12.3 with a final time of 1:41.4. No other entrant in tomorrow's race can better those splits and CODED SECRET will be a lonely winner.
The consistent XQUISITE CHOICE gets a grand opportunity to get off the mark for 2017 when he runs in the fourth race. Andrew McDonald's gelding did finish behind WARRIOR PRINCESS on January 28 but while the latter has raced just three times this year XQUISITE CHOICE has faced the starter six times and, therefore, his fitness is not in doubt.
Race five is another knotty maiden event where the main contenders are VICE ROYALTY, ROSES IN BLOOM and DIOSA DE ORO.
VICE ROYALTY ran a surprising third in the Jamaica Oaks on April 29 while she was just over two lengths behind ROSES IN BLOOM on her previous start.
The two are really nothing special and DIOSA DE ORO, who ran her best-ever race when fitted with the visor on April 29, appears to be an improving sort. Trainer Anthony Nunes has also opted for the very competent jockey Aaron Chatrie, instead of apprentice Dane Dawkins, and DIOSA DE ORO will run a big race tomorrow.
In the sixth event, BIG BLACK NATION should recoup losses after being surprised by Cup Of Tea last Saturday.
