Ready to take down Jamaicans - Ash

Ronnie Ash was a great standout during his collegiate years in the 110m hurdles at Bethune Cookman and Oklahoma University, but the American is yet to deliver on the big stage. He is hoping that this season will be the start of something special.

He will get a chance to show that he is ready to take that next step against a quality field at today's Jamaica International Invitational Meet inside the National Stadium.

Cocky and confident, Ash told The Gleaner that he is happy with his preparation coming into the meet and that he is backing himself to take down his rivals tonight.

"It will be my second race in the event this season and preparations have been great. I had suffered a groin injury a month ago and I didn't run well, but I am good to go now and I am planning to drop a sub-13.3 or 13.2 today. I am aiming to take down all the Jamaicans in the event," said Ash.

"I do respect the Jamaicans, as they all are doing well, but I am looking to see what they will do and I will just bring it to them", he added.

LOOKING FORWARD

Ash added that he is looking forward to experiencing Jamaica's famously excited track and field support.

"I heard that the crowd here is loud and rowdy and they are very passionate about sprinting, and I love that, because, going around the world sometimes, they are not that appreciative, especially back home, so when I come to the islands, if you put down a good race, they really appreciate it, so I will see how that goes," Ash said. Ash will face Commonwealth champion Andrew Riley and Olympian Deuce Carter.
