National Junior Champs postponed
Bad weather has forced the postponement of the National Junior Championships until this weekend.
"Due to the inclement weather, a decision was made to postpone the championships because of the condition of the track and throwing area inside the National Stadium," Ian Forbes, first vice-president of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, said yesterday. Forbes added that several teams from rural Jamaica had serious problems making the trip to the National Stadium because of the bad condition of the roads.
NEW DATES SOON
He stated that a formal announcement of the new dates for the meet will be made soon.
"We are looking on Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday, and all parties involved will know as early as possible," Forbes said.
Edwin Allen High's Michael Dyke said a Saturday-Sunday meet would be bad for his team.
"It will be graduation for some of my athletes on Sunday and we do not want them to miss this important function ... . We will definitely prefer the championships to be held on Friday and Saturday instead," said Dyke. His views were shared by several other coaches.
