Two overseas players in Scorpions squad

Jamaica Scorpions selected two overseas players in their 15-man squad at the 2017-18 Cricket West Indies Professional League draft announced yesterday at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston yesterday.

They are Trevon Griffith of Guyana and Steven Taylor of the United States of America (USA).

The 10 pre-selected Jamaica Scorpions players include Nikita Miller, Fabian Allen, Damion Jacob, Steven Taylor, Chadwick Walton, Andre McCarthy, John Campbell, Brandon King, Reynard Leveridge and Oshane Thomas. While the draft players selected by the Scorpions are Derval Green, Paul Palmer Jr, Marquino Mindley, Trevon Griffith and Damani Sewell.

Jamaican players Sheldon Cottrell will represent Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and Nkrumah Bonner is a member of the Windward Hurricanes.

Darren Ganga, who was the host of the draft announcement, said that each franchise is allowed 15 players with ten pre-selected and five drafted. A minimum of two players must be from outside each home country. However, each franchise has the option of selecting one international player at its own expense.

Jamaica Scorpions coach Robert Samuels said that his focus is on the growth and development of players.

"I am satisfied with the players on the team. First and foremost it's about growth and development of each player. Then hopefully, we can go on to win the regional four-day and 50 overs titles," Samuels said.
