Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake will not face the starter in the men's 100m at Sunday's IAAF Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco due to a right groin injury.

Speaking from the official meet hotel, the Amphitrite Palace hotel in the north African city, Blake's manager Cubie Seegobin confirmed to The Gleaner on Saturday afternoon (Morocco time) that the 2011 world 100 champion suffered the injury during a training session on Friday.

Blake was reportedly executing a number of 30m stride outs when the discomfort was experienced.

The sprinter will leave Rabat early Sunday morning and travel to Germany for treatment.

Blake, who returned to action last season and made the 100m final at the Rio Olympics Games after missing two years of competition due to injury, has been showing good form all season.

He won the sprint double at the National Senior Championships in Jamaica and with three sub-10 seconds 100m times under his belt this season, had presented himself as a major medal favourite at next month's World Championships in London.

Meet organisers are expected to make an announcement shortly.
