Allison takes first gold at CYG

Shanette Allison captured Jamaica's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in The Bahamas yesterday.

The Holmwood Technical High student clocked 13.26 seconds to win the women's 100m hurdles event. Allison was comfortably ahead of Australia Lateisha Willis, who was second in 13.55, while third went to Katarina Vlahovic of Canada in 13.58.

Tarjmar Miller finished a fifth in the men's 110m hurdles in 14.00. The race was won by England's Samuel Bennett in 13.71.

Tarees Rhoden ended sixth in the men's 800m final in 1:56.41. Alex Botterill of England won the event in 1.52:22.

Kevon Stone will compete in today's final of the men's 200m after finishing second in his heat in 21.71 yesterday. The event was won by Joel Johnson of The Bahamas in 21.70.

Jamaica are currently 11th on the medal standings with one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
