Henry : Humble Lion looking to restructure

Humble Lion Football Club chairman Mike Henry says that he did not make a U-turn on head coach Donovan Duckie after giving him a vote of confidence in the media recently. Duckie and Humble Lion separated by mutual consent on the weekend, and club chairman Henry explained that the club is going through a restructuring exercise. After a few meetings between the club and the coach, it was agreed that it would be best if they both parted company.

"The issue we are moving forward with is, we got to begin the move across the board in terms of academy and feeder systems. So we always have to look at how we structure. So this is a restructuring exercise and levelling the field," he said.

A press release issued by the club said that Duckie failed at the semi-final hurdle on two occasions. It added that the parties had given their commitment to continue working together this season to achieve that elusive top spot in the league. However, circumstances intervened, resulting in the two parting ways.

NO U-TURN

"The statement said it overall. There was no U-turn. We had discussions and had further discussions and we all have the right to change our minds. But what the club has discussed with the coach is a confidential thing between the club and the coach. But we just want to move to another level," Henry told The Gleaner.

He added that he has not ruled out looking overseas for a trainer.

"I never close my eyes tn anything. I will be happy to look overseas at coaches and players to strengthen us. That is a step we have to take to move the club from a playing club to an academy because Humble Lion is in a unique position because it has a whole parish to serve, not just a community in May Pen. He (Duckie) did a very good job, but everybody must move on," Henry added.
