Chong : We are still not playing at full potential

Coach of Jamaica's senior women's volleyball team Dr Ricardo Chong said the team was still not playing at full potential after they pulled off their second straight win in the CAZOVA Championships.

Jamaica comfortably defeated Curacao 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 for a 3-0 result in a late game on Thursday night at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

In other results on the night, defending champions and favourites Trinidad and Tobago beat Bahamas 3-0; Martinique also easily defeated Guadeloupe 3-0; and Suriname beat US Virgin Islands 3-0.

"We are still not playing to full potential. The team (Curacao) we played last night is better than the US Virgin Islands," Chong told The Gleaner.

"We have to take it one step at a time. We want to top the group in order to get a day off," he shared.

The participating teams have been placed into two groups during the preliminary stage. In Group D are Trinidad and Tobago, The Bahamas, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. In Group E are hosts Jamaica, Suriname, CuraÁao and US Virgin Islands.

At the end of the preliminary round, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The six-day championships will end on Monday, July 31.

The championships will continue today, starting at 3 p.m.
