LASCO iDrade Cage champions to be crowned tomorrow

The LASCO iDrade Cage Football Challenge 2017 makes its final stop in Kingston and St Andrew tomorrow at Mandela Park in Half-Way-Tree at 2 p.m. After four weeks of intense competition and incredible displays of individual skills, the winner will finally be crowned.

Machel Wilson emerged the Western Jamaica Champion of the LASCO iDrade Cage Football Challenge when the competition kicked off on Saturday, July 15. Since then Kevan Levy has won the Kingston region, Raymond Thompson the Portmore region, Taj Coley the Santa Cruz region and Rasheed Bald the Port Antonio Region, to all advance to the grand showdown.

They will be joined by the losing regional finalists and the third place finishers so that a total of 16 players will vie for the top prize of $50,000 and a years' supply of LASCO iDrade.

The final day of competition will see the 16 players drawn into four zones of four with the top two players from each zone advancing to the quarter-final round. From the quarter-final round the top four players will move to the semi-finals before the two winners move on to the grand finale. There will also be a third place match.

The iDrade Cage Football is a ONE vs ONE knockout football challenge played in the confines of a steel mesh cage. The first player to score five or more goals within a three minutes regulation period advances to the next round. A clean through the leg move or what we call a 'salad' or 'nutmeg' is recorded as an instant knockout and a 6-0 victory, despite the score of the game when the skill is performed.

Generation United sizzle in Top Notch Summer league

Phileman Haughton, on holidays from the United States, lit up the afternoon for spectators at last Sunday's round of the Top Notch Blocks Summer Football league, scoring a hat-trick to power Generation United to a 4-1 win over Old England. Manager/player Bruce Chambers was also on the scorecard, following up his strike in his team's 2-0 win against Cedar Grove the previous week.

Generation's performance took them to the quarter-finals ,but also matched that of the unbeaten leaders and competition favourites Pro Harware, who had recorded a similar win against Old England.

The spotlight switches back to Pro Hardware, who chase a sixth straight win in their match-up against Madrid. Belair Boys will also play Epping Forest.

All matches in the league are played at the Sunset playfield in Knock Patrick, Mandeville.

Quarter-finals stage in Georges Valley Corner League

The quarter-final stage begins today in the Georges Valley Corner league with two games at the deCarteret College ground.

At 1:30 p.m., the Zone I winners Red Square take on Belair Boys. The second game of the afternoon sees Central United One up against Quest Security.

The second set of quarter final games will be played tomorrow also at the deCarteret College ground. At 1:30, Villa takes on Central United Two and at 4 p.m., New Hall clash with Samacan Youths.

Earlier on Tuesday, Samacan Youths and Belair Boys snatched the last two quarterfinal berths. Samacan Youth humbled the Samacan Masters 3-1 to advance from the preliminary Zone Three along with Quest Security. Belair Boys knocked out Belitiro 2-1 to join Central Two from Zone Four.

Sporting lead Porus Under-15

The 2017 season of the Western Union-sponsored Porus Under 15 league resumes tomorrow with a full slate of matches at the Porus Community centre starting at 2 p.m.

Sporting Academy are the leaders of the 10-team competition with seven points from thre games. In results so far, they have beaten Villa 3-0, topped Rising Stars 2-1 and drawn 0-0 with Connections.

Defending champions Connection have four points, having beaten newcomers Los Perfectos 4-0 while adding the point gained against Sporting.

Tuff Gong have three points from a 3-0 win over Rising Stars. Galaxy, who drubbed Genius 8-0, are also on three points.

Carib Cement, Jamaica Customs in Business House KO final

Defending champions Carib Cement with meet first time knock-out finalists Jamaica Customs in the final of the 2017 Scotiabank sponsored, Kingston and St Andrew Business House Football knockout competition today at the Alpha Boys School , (South Camp Road). Match time is 3:30 p.m.

Former national player Paul Laidley is the coach of Carib Cement, and he will be looking to goalkeeper Mark Bryan, Ricardo Scott, Keno Ross, Ewan Murphy , Jerry Walters, brothers Shamario and Andrew Campbell, Damian Benjamin, Stephano Palmer, Richard Orrett and the prolific Elton Tucker for their second straight knock-out title.

Coaches Everald Campbell and Craig 'Warlord' White are confident that Jamaica Customs will win this match. They will be looking to captain, Rashedee Clarke, Lennox Russell, Akino Bailey, goalkeeper Rashaun Patterson, Akeem Brown, Oniel Collard, Cadine Graham, Richardo Henry and Conroy Johnson for victory.

Mandeville hosts Flaming Hot August shoot fest

Professional Shooters, licensed firearm holders and followers of pistol shooting will turn their attention to tomorrow's competition at the Manchester Rifle and Pistol Club, dubbed Flaming Hot August.

Practice has been hot this week starting on Sunday, with rising star Lyle Swaby shooting his way to 92 per cent of the natural favourite, Orville Henriques. Both female shooter Sue Ann Henriques and Alvin Amore also proved they could be in the reckoning for a top three finish, with both mining strong 80s.

On Wednesday at the club's midweek rumble, senior pro, Thomas Jones, shot a high 80 per cent of Henriques. No such luck though for Owen Campbell, who shot below 50 per cent.

The event will attract a round count of just over 100 and will be limited to six stages. The advertised start is 10:30 a.m. but the range will be open from 9 a.m. for pre-tournament practise.

Tomorrow's tournament will be the final major one for August and the organisers promise an early finish so patrons can watch on location, the closing highlights of the current World Championship now on in London, England.
