Trinidad test for local-based Boyz

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz return to the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain to face regional rivals and hosts Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) in an international friendly this evening with bragging rights on the line.

Head coach Theodore Whitmore will be looking to build on the momentum gained from last month's participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where the team equalled its best-ever finish of a runners-up spot. Six of the players from that squad - Ladale Ritchie, Michael Binns, Ewan Grandison, Ricardo Morris, Shamar Nicholson, and Rosario Harriott - have made the trip for tonight's game as Whitmore looks towards his local-based players to get the job done.

T&T, on the other hand, will be using the game to prepare for their upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Honduras on September 1. Their coach, former player Dennis Lawrence, much like Whitmore, is still adjusting to his squad, having been appointed in the role in January.

Lawrence has recalled Major League Soccer-based Cordell Cato to his squad as he looks to put an end to a rift that existed between the two. This evening, he will be looking to remove whatever pressure was placed on him as a result of their disagreement with a strong performance in midfield.

Lawrence's squad will feature two other overseas-based players in Mekeil Williams of Colorado FC in the MLS and Aubrey David from PS Remi in Finland.

Whitmore will be looking to the experience of senior player Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson, who has not featured in his team since the 2-0 win over CuraÁao at the Gold Cup but will also be expected to include youngster Alex Marshall at some stage in the game to see how he fares at the senior international level.

In Whitmore's third stint in charge of the team, between 2009 and 2013, he guided his team to two wins in as many games against T&T. One of these was a 3-1 win in Trinidad, while the other was a 1-0 victory at the National Stadium in Kingston.

This evening's match kicks off at 7 o'clock (Jamaica time).
