Six-team JCA Super League launched
A new competition, to be known as the JCA Super League, was launched at Sabina Park yesterday by the Jamaica Cricket Association.
It is a ten-round two-day competition which is scheduled to start on Saturday and end on November 19. The winners will pocket $500,000.
The JCA Super League will replace 'trials' to select teams to represent the Jamaica Scorpions franchise in the Regional Professional League four-day and limited over competitions. The six teams were drawn from the players who competed in Senior Cup Cricket. The teams are Southern Seals, Central Titans, Western Warriors, Eastern Tigers, Northern Panthers and Combined Universities & Colleges.
Matches in the JCA Super League will be played across the island but mainly at UWI/Mona, Treasure Beach Sports Park, Trelawny Multi Purpose Stadium, Kaiser Sports Club, Chedwin Park, Melbourne and Sabina Park.
First-round fixtures: Southern Seals vs Central Titans at Treasure Beach Sports Park; Western Warriors vs Eastern Tigers at Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium and Northern Panthers vs Combined Universities & Colleges at GC Foster College in St Catherine. Matches begin at 10 a.m.
Some of the players who will represent the teams include Jermaine Blackwood, Andre McCarthy, Zeniffe Fowler, Brandon King, Damon Jacobs, John Campbell, Paul Palmer, Ravmon Powell, Chadwick Walton, Reynard Leveridge, Myron Wilson, and Krishmar Santokie.
Most of the teams have already started training in preparation for the start of the competition. According to the JCA's Oneil Cruickshank, the best coaches in the island will be in charge of the teams with most of them having level three certification. They include Robert Haynes, Gibbs Williams, Philip Service, Junior Bennett, Cleon Smith and Milton Thomas.
A seven round limited overs competition will follow the two-day competition.
