Nicholson ready for Slovenia challenge

National senior team and striker Shamar Nicholson has admitted that it won't be easy adjusting to his new club NK Domzale as he awaits his visa to travel to Slovenia.

Nicholson, who is likely to fly out this weekend, recently sealed a three-year deal to play with NK Domzale in Slovenia's top league.

"I know it won't be easy, but already I have the mindset to go there and do my best to help my new club," Nicholson, the former Boys' Town forward, told The Gleaner yesterday.

"I am ready to face all challenges, with the weather, language and different culture. I am ready to meet the new teammates and get on with the job," he added.

He said the club's manager, Simon Rozman, spoke with him, and they are awaiting his entry into the league.

Meanwhile, Nicholson praised his former Boys' Town coach, Andrew Price, for giving him the chance in the senior squad three years ago, while he was only 17 years old.

"I have worked with Coach Price for the past three years, and he has been a major influence on my career. He has been like a second father, always there for me since my father (Wayne) was killed four years ago," Nicholson said.

His father is a constant motivation to achieve something from football, and he also wants to provide for his family.

"I want to help my mother (Racquel Gayle), four brothers and four sisters, so I have to go there and play for them. I am a confident person and will just go there and score goals to help the team," Nicholson added.

NK Domzale are currently in sixth position in the Slovenian PrvaLiga (First League). They are two-time winners - 2006-07 and 2007-08. The club also won the Slovenian second league in 2002-03; the Slovenian Cup in 2010-11 and 2016-17; and Slovenian Supercup in 2007 and 2011.
