Bilingual delivers comfortable win
BILINGUAL yesterday outclassed WESTERN WARRIOR in the stretch run to score an easy win at a mile, clocking 1:39.0 on her second race back from a near five-month lay-up.
Beaten by speedy LOOSE CANNON at five and a half furlongs two weeks ago, on her return, BILINGUAL, runner-up in the 1000 Guineas and Jamaica Oaks, was far more comfortable at a mile, with Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas retained by trainer Anthony Nunes.
Held off the pace in fourth while her stablemate, FOLLOW BACK A ME, was left standing by WESTERN WARRIOR down the backstretch, BILINGUAL was forced to give chase of the quick colt from the half-mile marker.
WESTERN WARRIOR ripped splits of 1:11.1 into the straight but was quickly collared by BILINGUAL, who sprinted off to win by two lengths on a wet track.
Cardenas rode his second winner of the day when he partnered 9/5 favourite EXECUTIVE CHARM to a close win over MISTER BONES with Robert Halladeen in the saddle in the final race, which was contested over 1200 metres.
Non-claiming apprentice Dane Dawkins also rode two winners on the 10 - racecard, even-money favourite UNCLE VINNIE in the second race before returning to land the seventh with BALLON D'OR.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
