Coley: No let up tomorrow against KC

Jamaica College have already sealed a spot in the upcoming ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup semi-finals but Miguel Coley, the coach of the Old Hope Road-based school wants more.

Coley has now warned that he will be aiming for victory in his team's last quarter-final game against Kingston College. A positive result for JC could see KC dropping out of the competition.

JC secured a last four spot in the prestigious Manning Cup when they edged Calabar 1-0 last Tuesday at Constant Spring. That win moved JC to maximum six points in Group H ahead of KC (four), Calabar (1), and Bridgeport who are without a point and out of contention.

The final set of games will be played tomorrow.

"It is going to be a very important game (against KC). A very important game because we want that (winning) momentum going into the semi-finals. It is a must-win game for us. We won't relax," Coley told The Gleaner on Tuesday.

JC are still in the hunt for a fifth straight Manning Cup title since Coley took over as head coach in 2013. However, earlier in the season most experts wrote off JC.

GETTING BETTER

"As I said before the season started, mentally, we weren't as tough as we wanted to be, but technically, they were very good. They are also very fit. Each game they are getting better and better. Each player knows that when they lose the passion, they lose their place. They have to continue working. Players have been coming in and sealing their games. It is not that we have one set of players. They have to show their mettle," he shared.

When quizzed as to whether this team is his weakest of the past four years, Coley was quick to defend his current squad.

"This is a fantastic team. They will do better as time goes by," the JC coach said.

JC are on course for four titles. They are also in the Walker Cup knockout competition, the FLOW Super Cup, and winning the Manning Cup will set up a date with the daCosta Cup winners for the Olivier Shield crown.
